Found myself revisiting this video after recently selling my x3. Had full intension of purchasing x4 only to find insta360 have removed ability to send gps data and control camera from Apple Watch. Started me re-thinking about whether I really need another 360 or whether I’d be better off with a GoPro 11 or 12. The main issue I found is having lots of 10-20minute clips saved off but never having edited/reframed them. Just so time consuming. Bad enough cutting and tweaking 10 minutes of a standard flat file let alone having to reframe the video as well. Love the idea of 360 cameras and you can get some great shots (plus it can be fun initially editing and reframing). But I could get a GoPro 11 and DJI mini 4k drone for price of the insta360 x4 with an as card and selfie stick now! (And have footage I could immediately watch and use!)

The X3 is good at capturing everything. But if I want quality then I will use a GoPro and point my camera (which is fairly easy to do most of the time) because it produces a clearer image.

  3. @stuartosborne3013 on February 5, 2025 at 4:39 pm

The go pro is hopeless with wind noise. If you like wind noise get go pro. Plus the out of box set up was awful. Go pro is ok if there’s no wind.

  4. @slojam100 on February 5, 2025 at 4:39 pm

I have the x3 and found i was spending far too much time reframing in the editing.
    I have 2 gopro 7’s.
My wife films and I film
Then i take the best of that for the final edit.
Admittedly you have to be mindful of what you capture..
This saves me so much time.
    Great video as always.
    Thanks

I just bought the an X3 to video recording my parrots flying with me on the motorcycle. Incredible upgrade since I no longer need to focus on keeping the camera facing the birds and keeping the bike on the trail. https://youtu.be/8tbSrjX2-ww

    Thank you!

  7. @hanswurst_onfire on February 5, 2025 at 4:40 pm

If you already own a 360, you DONT need to buy a GoPro, because there is a built-in 150° Camera with usable mp4 export files with no need to reframe afterwards!

  8. @dawaadler on February 5, 2025 at 4:42 pm

    GoPro makes a 360 camera…

  11. @Calvarydima on February 5, 2025 at 4:48 pm

Non! The answer is Sony x3000

  12. @AEGENTTECH on February 5, 2025 at 4:49 pm

Awesome video! It’s fascinating to see how these two cameras compare. Aegent Technologies offers wearable 360° cameras like the NEXX360 that might be of interest to your viewers—perfect for those who want to capture all angles in a completely hands-free setup!

  13. @ulfbro3973 on February 5, 2025 at 4:50 pm

You’re absolutely right. I spend a lot of time editing insta360. But it’s worthwhile.

  14. @frankmoralesiii6908 on February 5, 2025 at 4:51 pm

I bought 2 GoPro hero 7 blacks in 2019 for motovlog. It is now 2024 and they are very unreliable – freeze, turn off by self, over heat. Also, I bough 3 Hero 8 Blacks, 1 in 2021 and 2 in 2022. All three of those do not work anymore – they flat out stopped working. One hero 8, after being on for 20 seconds, like clock work, repeatedly cycles on and off. The other two freeze after running about 1 minute. I am done with GoPros. All three do not give me any quality recording time. Thinking about getting DJI Action camera.

  15. @LUC66631 on February 5, 2025 at 4:51 pm

I wonder what the laws are in the US or UK because in Belgium to can stick 50 cm something out from the back and NOTHING from the front of youre bike . 😁😁👍👍

  16. @Sitsolitary on February 5, 2025 at 4:52 pm

Here I’ll let you guys know in one post: 360 cameras video quality isn’t as good but you gain the ability to reframe after..

take your pick, if you know your going to shoot well and get the right angles and framing correct then you’ll be better off with a standard GoPro. If you want a set and forget then get a 360.

Also note that a 360 camera is more work to clip and edit in post.

Can I use insta 360×3 to record my full court basketball games if attached to a tripod?

  19. @theitalian_savage on February 5, 2025 at 4:57 pm

I’ll still go with the insta360 one RS cuz I have multiple options for one camera

  20. @BAESZMUSIC on February 5, 2025 at 4:58 pm

Thankssss a ton for making this video!!! I own a GoPro 11, & all these “cool” videos of the 360. But, here’s getting to the point! Thanks!

  21. @nareshmadnani on February 5, 2025 at 4:58 pm

    Very Simple
Select single lens mode on Insta 360 x3 Or the new x4.

    It becomes go pro.

Just render the footage out from insta software as. MP4 and use your favourite software for editing.

  22. @Jackfoto-i1w on February 5, 2025 at 5:01 pm

    like it

  23. @juankaramirez on February 5, 2025 at 5:01 pm

I feel you get a very gimmicky footage with 360 cameras…

  24. @jornmulder on February 5, 2025 at 5:04 pm

is the insta360 not more expensive ?

  25. @pintail120 on February 5, 2025 at 5:05 pm

    Gopro is a POS

  27. @konpadelic on February 5, 2025 at 5:06 pm

What do you think about the Mevo start cam??

  28. @milda197905 on February 5, 2025 at 5:11 pm

I don’t think that "No One Tells You About THIS". The fact that 360 needs some post-process is mentioned in almost any review video. I’d say that marketing of 360 cameras is bit twisted. Majority of people want/expect to record video and send it directly to social networks and insta360 marketing tries to follow that trend.
For me, recording video is just start of the process. I actually like to do post-process, so I’m looking more for cameras allowing things like D-log videos and raw photos rather than "fancy" mobile apps allowing for instant sharing. So, as usual, depends on customer’s taste… I’d not buy 360 camera as "instant" result thing. But with proper post process (and I do not agree that learning curve is "steep". That might be caused by the fact that I’m in photo/video for a while) 360 can provide interesting results.

  29. @piratelz4164 on February 5, 2025 at 5:12 pm

Great review – I get asked which is better all the time too – I think I’ll send them this link instead of answering, but you are right, both have their pros & cons!! One thing I really like about my X3 is the "set and forget" factor…as long as it’s on and recording it captures EVERYTHING, so I can focus on riding and having fun and not being cameraman.

  30. @heliflyer7 on February 5, 2025 at 5:15 pm

    Helpful video!

  31. @BrydenMcKinnie on February 5, 2025 at 5:15 pm

That’s my thoughts exactly. On location, I’m in flow, picking the shots for the edit. But with the 360 shot, I’m not at home wondering what shot to edit. To the point that I’ve not edited any holiday vids. The moment has gone. So the edit when done is not the same.

  32. @stephenfry4685 on February 5, 2025 at 5:16 pm

Really informative. Been struggling to decide which is best option for motorcycle touring but this has made the choice easier. Great video (going for the gopro 12 for ease of use) Thanks

  33. @Gamevlogs00 on February 5, 2025 at 5:16 pm

go pro for sure . its been out longer and way cheaper. a lot of more attachments for it

  34. @YQZhang-bh8xj on February 5, 2025 at 5:17 pm

X3 is the best camera I ever have, much much better than goPro, and dji action camera in my opinion.

  35. @Jmas369 on February 5, 2025 at 5:18 pm

    Good choices and explanation

  36. @Alyy4 on February 5, 2025 at 5:19 pm

Does all insta360 has one lens option?

  37. @ian-mucarruthers441 on February 5, 2025 at 5:21 pm

At one point you say that the X3 ‘has the creative edge’. I feel it depends. I plan my shots and think about what I’m going to do before I shoot. My creative bent is based on planning. Capture everything and then edit, is not how I work.
    A really interesting video. Thanks

  38. @jamesgroce3125 on February 5, 2025 at 5:22 pm

Just started using a Insta360 X3. Took videos in 180 mode (single front facing lens) at our recent match. Those mp4 videos were usable without any processing necessary. Getting up to speed on 360 videos – taken a couple of videos and getting comfortable editing.
Got this crazy thought – since smart phones have lenses front and back, why isn’t there an app that can emulate 360 video?
Or does that already exist and I’m simply behind the knowledge curve?

  39. @bradrichardson08 on February 5, 2025 at 5:23 pm

Um curious if they are good for filming at a slight distance – like my kids football games etc

  40. @henrikmartensson2044 on February 5, 2025 at 5:23 pm

There are different use cases for the cameras. I bought an Insta360 X3 because I want to make 360 degree HDRI images for use in 3D software. The GoPro does not do that.

When I want to take pictures for digital compositing, I use a mirrorless camera. Neither the Insta360, nor the GoPro, would be good for that.

There are use cases where the GoPro would be the better choice.

How difficult it is to edit is not really an important factor.

Beware. I bought an Insta 2. It just would not operate, over heating & shutting off continuously. I returned it under warranty & received an Insta 360 3. It did the same. I tried many high speed cards, always updated etc. I returned it & received another insta 3 replacement. It’s also absolutely unusable & I’m now convinced they are just rubbish. I tried to get assistance from Insta, nothing. I’ve 20 yrs experience with action cams, 35 yrs experience with high end DSLR & understand clearly what I’m doing. Insta are nothing but garbage ..overpriced garbage at that. I’m now about to obtain my 4th 360 & it’s def back to GoPro for me. What a waste of money & time re Insta

  43. @heinous70 on February 5, 2025 at 5:29 pm

It does take a while to wrap your mind around not having to point a lens at something . I’ve tried quite a few times to explain the process to friends , and when they finally see what it does, you can tell they didn’t get it up to that point. The word "framing" becomes irrelevant.
You’ll also likely need a PC upgrade to do 360 editing. I ended up getting a gaming laptop, to avoid having to build a PC that could handle the job. If you’re scared of China and tick tock, be scared of this too. It’s not just the software, the app is required to be on your phone to turn the camera off and on. It does not function unless you give it every single permission it asks for.. even the ones that really shouldn’t need.
Definitely not as user-friendly as most things have become

  44. @WoodyWanderer on February 5, 2025 at 5:30 pm

So what would people choose ? I’ve just got in to cameras the last few months using them on my bike . After using a camera from 2018 I want to step it up to something a lot newer and these are the exact 2 I’ve short listed .
Which is better battery ? Which is better for catching sunrises and sunsets while riding ?

  45. @alfredxavier5880 on February 5, 2025 at 5:30 pm

To be fair from what I’m seeing is that GoPro has been around longer to fine tune the resolution and quality after it’s many successes where it has the money to put forth what it has over time. Now that X3 was on the scene GoPro has competition to push itself harder and I wouldn’t doubt it’ll do 360 at some point and it may start off bumpy cause it’s not familiar with the tech but we’ll see.

  46. @CookandBakewithSamer on February 5, 2025 at 5:31 pm

Thank you for the comparisons. For in doors, I probably should continue using my iPhone 14 Pro but get a 360 for outdoors. Can you get an external mic for the Insta360?

  47. @wektor1972 on February 5, 2025 at 5:32 pm

I would like buy becouse make 360 Videos. If i need normal format i have lot of cameras,

  48. @angeeast4209 on February 5, 2025 at 5:34 pm

I was on the fence about purchasing a 360 for our vacations. This helped me decide that the 360 would not be a good option for me. I simply do not want to spend any more time editing than I already do with my GoPro. Thank you SO MUCH!
