Calling All Birding Enthusiasts: Share Your Favorite Hotspots with Us!
Sometimes it can be hard to know what spots in particular areas are good for birding. As a result, we created a “hotspot review form” that birders can fill out to tell other people about what their favorite hotspots are actually like. Is there a fee involved? Is it walkable? What rarities show up there?

St. Marks NWR in Florida, ocean shores in Washington state, and Malheur NWR in Oregon.
good idea – this to me is a major gap with ebird (not having a hotspot description).
Mingo NWR in Southeastern Missouri. It’s essentially the only area of MO left with bottomland hardwood forests. There is a nearly 20-mile auto tour that takes you through swampy woods, thick forests, overlooks of enormous swamps and bluffs and so on. There is also a nice boardwalk trail through some swamp that is always full of snakes, skinks, tons of insect and plant life, wading birds, eagles and owls, summer warbler species, and tons of migrants in spring and fall.
The boardwalk trail is probably no more than a mile long and very accessible. It also connects to 1 or 2 other trails that go along the edge of some bluffs and up toward the visitor center. I could spend all morning in those hot summer days just hanging out watching birds, herps, and insects there. It’s also in close enough proximity to go to other hotspots like Otter Slough or Duck Creek Conservation area all in the same day. Main downside is that there is N O T H I N G nearby any of these places and places to stay are a solid 1 hr+ away in Cape Girardeau.
We are moving from one part of Oklahoma to another place across the state. We saw a pileated woodpecker and a red shouldered hawk over the weekend end, but you will be the first to know if that turns out to be a hot spot! God bless.😊

Warning: heavy bird fallout during spring
I live in eastern South Dakota, Sand Lake National Wildlife Refuge has lots of cool migratory shorebirds including turnstones, dunlins, golden plovers, godwitts and many others. Newton Hills State Park is great for warblers and Tanagers. Anywhere around the four Missouri River dams is great for waterfowl and rare arctic gulls.
I just like taking pictures of birds that I find by my bird feeders. I normally don’t go out adventuring to look for them but the Hotspot for birds is by far the front yard porch. I have seen nuthatches, chickadees, juncos, woodpeckers, and even the neighbor’s cat out by my front porch, all within the same season. (This winter)

Im not very close to you but my favorite hotspot is a place called Hendrie Valley in Burlington Ontario, Great Video!
Pelican Point at the Cherry Creek State Park in Arapahoe County, Colorado (or the whole park in general) is where I typically go birding
